These are a collection of portraits. They tease a relationship between age and vibrancy. The nameless subjects are all strangers to me—extracted from the unexceptional moments of birthday parties, barbecues, and gatherings past. The subjects are related to one another only by their grayed skin tones and dated fashion.
Here, fictionally configured spaces are shaped by something new and something gone, bridged by conflicting generations of color. These spaces are populated by realism collapsed onto geometric elements--balanced between structure and invention. The ordinary masks the sublime and the persistent overwhelms the faded. Throughout this work these elements overlap to create visual rhythms.
